Read Before Every Use

FlightDecide is a flight planning assistance tool. It does not replace official preflight weather briefings, certified flight planning software, or the judgment of a qualified pilot in command. The pilot in command is always the final authority and bears sole responsibility for all flight decisions.

Advisory Tool Only

FlightDecide provides informational analysis to assist with go/no-go decision-making. All output from the App (including verdicts GO, CAUTION, NO GO, scores, and AI-generated briefings) is advisory in nature only. This information does not constitute legal authorization to fly, confirmation of airworthiness, or compliance with any regulatory requirement.

You must exercise your own independent judgment before every flight. The App is a tool to help you think through your decision, not a system that makes the decision for you.

Not a Substitute for Official Weather Briefing

FlightDecide does not provide an official FAA weather briefing. Pilots are encouraged and in some circumstances required to obtain an official weather briefing from an authorized source before every flight. Official briefing sources include:

  • 1800wxbrief.com (Leidos Flight Service)
  • Direct user access to aviationweather.gov
  • Any other FAA-authorized aviation weather service

Weather data displayed in the App may be delayed, incomplete, or unavailable due to third-party service limitations. Never rely solely on FlightDecide for weather information.

Regulatory note: While there is no specific FAR requiring a "standard briefing" for Part 91 VFR flights, 14 CFR 91.103 requires pilots to become familiar with all available information concerning the flight before departure. FlightDecide alone does not satisfy this requirement.

Not FAA Certified

FlightDecide is not an FAA-approved or FAA-certified product. It is not approved for use under Part 121 or Part 135 operations as a primary or supporting source of dispatch or release information. Commercial operators must use approved data sources and methods for all flight planning and dispatch functions.

No content within this App constitutes a Dispatch Release, Operational Control authorization, or any other regulatory document.

Performance Data is Approximate

Aircraft performance figures within the App are derived from publicly available Pilot's Operating Handbook data and are provided for planning reference only. Actual performance of any specific aircraft may differ due to:

  • Aircraft age, condition, and maintenance history
  • Airframe modifications or equipment changes
  • Engine time since overhaul
  • Propeller condition
  • Variations in atmospheric conditions from standard day
  • Pilot technique and proficiency

Always compute weight and balance and performance using the actual, current POH and approved supplements for your specific aircraft registration number.

Pilot in Command Final Authority

Pursuant to 14 CFR Section 91.3, the pilot in command of an aircraft is directly responsible for, and is the final authority as to, the operation of that aircraft. This authority and responsibility cannot be delegated to any app, system, or tool.

A GO verdict from FlightDecide is an informational output based on available data. It does not:

  • Override your judgment as a certificated pilot
  • Authorize the flight under any regulation
  • Transfer any legal responsibility away from you
  • Account for factors you observe in person at the airport
  • Replace your preflight inspection

If conditions at the airport, aircraft condition, or your personal state of fitness differ from what the App analyzed, trust your judgment. It is always appropriate to be more conservative than a tool recommends.

AI Limitations

The narrative briefings in FlightDecide are generated by a large language model (LLM) AI. AI technology, while powerful, has inherent limitations:

  • The AI may occasionally generate inaccurate or misleading statements ("hallucinations")
  • The AI does not have real-time situational awareness or operational experience
  • The AI's analysis is limited to the data provided to it; it cannot observe actual conditions
  • AI-generated text should be treated as a starting point for analysis, not a conclusion
  • The AI is not a certified meteorologist, flight instructor, or aviation authority

Always read AI-generated briefings critically and verify specific data points against authoritative sources.
